This year's NBA All-Star game took place at the new Dallas Cowboys stadium, in front of over 100,000 people. The stars were out, and The King did not disappoint. Such a shame that Kobe couldn't participate, because the show that LeBron and D-Wade put on was more or less a Dunk Contest in its own right.
This was the best All-Star game the NBA could have hoped for. Coming off the uber-disappointing Dunk Contest That Wasn't, they needed this game to live up to its hype. It might have been ever better than was advertised, and while Dwayne Wade stole the MVP, LeBron most definitely stole the show. A close game all the way to the finish, this had the makings of a classic.
LeBron James was a one-man wrecking crew. He and Wade were on the same page, and King James brought the crowd to their feet on multiple occasions with his thunderous dunk-nasties. If you missed this game, you truly missed one of the most entertaining performances LeBron James has ever put on. Insane reverse alley-oop jams were abundant, as was the scour on Tim Duncan's face when LeBron seemingly triple-pumped a dunk that will never be duplicated again.
For these reasons, I understand why LeBron didn't partcipate in this years Dunk Contest. The All-Star game is this superstar's version of the contest. Don't hate the player, hate the game. LeBron showed us why he is the best basketball player on planet Earth, and all Kobe could do was sit sheepishly in his seat as Bron schooled the entire Western All-Star team. Sorry Kobe, LeBron's All-Star performance yet again proves why you will never compare to the King. Enjoy sitting out some more games, especially as the Lakers (4-game win streak) play better without your demand-the-ball and shoot when you want strategy. LeBron was the real MVP of this game. LeBron James is underrated
Watching last night's All-Star weekend festivities, I felt like a kid who didn't get what he wanted Christmas morning. As long as I can remember, I've always looked forward to the Dunk Contest more so than any other event. Basically since about 2nd grade, I have always made a point to watch the Contest, and have never been let down as much as I was last night.
I guess I shouldn't have really expected anything special. Presenting your Dunk Contest participants.. Gerald Wallace, Demar Derozan, Shannon Brown, and Nate Robinson. Before I bash my favorite part of All-Star Weekend, I'll start with the positives. Shannon Brown is a pretty special dunker, Demar Derozan has potential, and Nate Robinson reminds me of Spud Webb the way he can elevate.
Now, time to be blatently honest. This was the most pathetic excuse for a dunk contest the NBA has provided us fans in quite some time. Let's start with Gerald Wallace. Gerald, your 1st round dunks were by far the most disappointing. You basically showed up with no plan, and did the most un-original dunks imaginable. Thanks for coming out, and please don't come back next year. Ex-Cavalier Shannon Brown was the other partcipant knocked out in the 1st round. In my opinion, Shannon Brown had all the potential in the world to win the contest this year. While he received low scores for his two not-so creative dunks, and didn't make it out of the first round, I thought his 1st dunk where he switched hands last second was pretty cool. Apparently the judges didn't think so.
Demar Derozan almost stole the show, and his dunk off the side of the backboard was pretty much the highlight of the contest. It was the only dunk the crowd really got up for, and his hangtime and ability to throw down a ferocious windmill was pretty spectacular. Demar made it to the finals, but his two final dunks were pretty weak. Better luck next time.
Nate Robinson more or less won the Dunk Contest by default. A 2-time Contest Champion, the vertically-challenged Robinson yet again wowed the crowd with his ability to jump out of the building. His last dunk off the backboard which he double-pumped and reverse-jammed was moderately impressive, if only for the fact that he jumps so high, being so short. Nate, you're a pretty good dunker. Congratulations on being the first 3-time Dunk Contest Champion, and winning the most un-exciting Dunk Contest in recent memory.
Dear LeBron, with all due respect, please just Man-Up already. You got everybody's hopes up last year when you announced you would participate this year, and then when push came to shove you backed out. You are clearly the most exciting dunker in the league, and this would be the perfect event to showcase that. Not only do the fans want to see you crush the competition, the NBA needs you to at least do one Dunk Contest. What used to be the most exciting part of All-Star weekend has been reduced to the most pathetic excuse for entertainment the NBA could imagine. LeBron James' athletic ability could single-handedly revive the contest, and if he agreed to dunk there would be other stars who would come out as well. Imagine a Dunk Contest with LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Dwight Howard, and Dwayne Wade. LeBron, now more than ever, the NBA dunk contest needs you. LeBron James is underrated
Welcome to Cleveland, the home of the best basketball team in the NBA. Is this really happening? (Yes) Last night in Cleveland, LeBron and the Cavaliers extended their NBA season-high winning streak to 13 games, against Dwight Howard and the Orlando Magic. With this victory, the Cavaliers have set a franchise record for consecutive wins, and the team is on fire heading into All-Star Weekend.
This was a great game to watch, as the Cavaliers faced one of their toughest tests this season against the 2nd best team in the Eastern Conference. The Orlando Magic had been playing well, and with the resurgence of Vince Carter who dropped 48 the other night, set their sights on ending the Cavs winning streak. It was not meant to be.
The Cavaliers are a much better team now than they were when they got knocked out of the playoffs last year by the Magic. With the combination of LeBron, Shaq Diesel, and JJ Hickson, this team now has the pieces to win an NBA championship. Hickson had so many dunks in the 1st half, you almost had to feel bad for Stan Van Gundy. Even though Orlando played well and kept it close until the final few minutes, it is clear who the dominant team in the NBA is right now. Just ask Dwight Howard, who racked up fouls in the first half and really didn't have an answer for the play of Hickson, Varejao, and O' Neal.
Dear Dwight, you're not really an offensive threat at this point in your career. I thoroughly enjoyed the fact that you had have someone help you double Shaq, because "The Real Superman" is too big of a man for even you to handle. I also was satisfied to see Hickson dunk over you several times, and also block one of your 2nd half shots. You definitely got outplayed, and you were embarrassed on multiple occasions. How does it feel? Stop calling yourself "Superman" when you don't even have a go-to offensive move. Your team is not built for a championship this year. Here's an idea: Pass the ball to JJ Reddick, who was +13 in his 16 minutes on the floor. He deserves significantly more playing time, maybe you should lobby for him to start instead of Jameer Nelson.
LeBron was the story of the game, and particularly the 2nd half. When the Magic took a 96-94 lead, LeBron was not about to let this game get away. He buried several ridiculous jumpers, made incredible passes to Delonte West for open 3's, and made Michael Pietrus look foolish on defense. 32 points, 13 dimes, and 8 rebounds. Add that up and what do you get? M.V.P. The best player in the league never disappoints on national television, and his play has put the Cavaliers in a dominant position, with 13 straight wins heading into the break. Cleveland is head-and-shoulders the best team in the NBA right now. Now let's all catch our breath, watch an exciting All-Star weekend, and get ready for the beatdowns that will ensue for the teams that play the Cavs the rest of this season. LeBron has no intentions of allowing this streak to end. LeBron James is underrated
The Cavaliers are on an 11 game win streak, and the Knicks are the latest victim. Saturday night at the Q, the Cavs dismantled the Knicks (in the first half), and although they struggled to maintain the lead in the latter half, they beat the team LeBron will not be signing with after this season.
There aren't really words in the English dictionary to describe the show LeBron put on in the 1st quarter of this game. The best way I can explain it is to compare it to The King's game 5 performance versus the Pistons en route to an NBA finals appearance. For awhile there, he didn't miss a shot. 24 points in a row. 3 pointers from all over the floor, this was LeBron at his finest. Anyone who doesn't think LeBron is one of the league's best pure shooters was silenced after this display of basketball supremacy. The Man scored a Cavaliers record 35 points in the first half. If LeBron possessed the selfish-gene Kobe inherited, he could have scored 100.
Long story short, LeBron cooled off significantly in the 2nd half, and the Knicks somehow came back to make it a game. As a Cavaliers fan, it is a little frustrating to know we could potentially win a game by 50 or more points, and end up winning by 7. John Krolik (of Cavs: the blog) correctly pointed out that the Knicks zone defense confused the Cavaliers in the 2nd half, allowing them to get back into the game. Regardless, we won the game and have a commanding lead in the Eastern Conference.
After watching Boston vs. Orlando on Sunday, (the two teams that have no chance of contending with the King this year) I am convinced the Cavs will make the finals with relative ease. Dwight Howard gets too many fouls and has to sit out too often. The Celtics are SO OLD it hurts to watch. You would think that with star power such as Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and Paul Pierce, they would be pretty good still. Not the case, and it's obvious that Rajon Rondo is clearly their best player. Garnett looks like a shell of himself, Allen is inconsistent, and Pierce isn't the player he used to be. Orlando is slightly better than Boston, but Vince Carter is in a shooting funk, and they don't have the depth to contend with the Cavs.
More or less, Jeff Van Gundy spoke correctly when he said, "It doesn't matter who wins this game. Neither of these teams are going to beat the Cleveland Cavaliers." The Cavaliers at 41-11 are the team to beat, and this team is rolling. LeBron and Shaq will be dancing with the Gold Trophy this June. (see above) LeBron is a freak of nature. LeBron James is underrated
Dwyane Wade knows his team can't compete with LeBron and the Cavaliers this season. Last night in Cleveland, LeBron won yet another battle against Wade, blowing out the Heat 102-86 and cruising to a 10th straight win. LeBron led the way again with 36 points, and the best team in the NBA is just getting better.
Dwyane forgot to bring his A-game last night, and pulled a Kobe-esque 24 points on 11/26 shooting. Wade yet again embarrassed himself playing against the Cavs; This time it was Hickson who made the Flash look just pathetic. In the first quarter, J.J. had a fast-break and Wade foolishly tried to pull a LeBron chase-down block, but instead decided to opt to get posterized, as Hickson put down a two-handed slam in his face. Later in the game, Wade drove and tried a layup, and Hickson blocked the ball and sent The Flash down to the ground for yet another Sportscenter Not Top 10. D-Wade, you got owned. I thought you were better than that.
In a game where The Flash couldn't do a whole lot, LeBron was nothing short of spectacular. Only attempting 15 shots, LeBron scored 36, cashing in on 17 free throws, while dishing out 8 assists as well. There was some serious alley-oop action that occured as well, with LeBron and JJ connecting on consecutive possessions to really bring the crowd into the game. "Witness Protection" aka Shaq Diesel was also clutch for the Cavs, dominating the post and racking up fouls on the other team. D-Wade, after the game said this.. "We're competing for a playoff spot. They're competing for a championship. It's different." Good to see The Flash knows what's up.
Daniel Gibson provided an interesting story line last night, as he missed the first half to attend his pregnant fiancee in the hospital. First of all, did anyone know that Boobie is engaged to be married to singer Keyshia Cole? Did not know that. Gibson arrived at half-time, stroked a few 3 balls, and acted like it was no big deal. I like your style Boobie.
Cavaliers fans, brace yourselves, there might potentially be huge news coming for the team as soon as Monday. There is talk of Antawn Jamison to the Cavaliers for maybe two 1st round draft picks, and sources say you could see him in a wine and gold jersey as soon as next week. This could potentially be huge for the franchise, and with the looming return of Leon Powe, the best team in the league could overnight become even better. Don't get your hopes up though, as Danny Ferry is said to be torn between bringing him here and not making a move at all. Could potentially mean less minutes for players like Jawad Williams and Jamario Moon. If LeBron wants Jamison on the team, you better believe D-Ferrys going to see it through. LeBron runs this organization anyways. LeBron James is underrated
The best team in the NBA is rolling. LeBron and company made it 9 straight when they clamped down defensively and shut down Rudy Gay and the Memphis Grizzlies. The Grizzlies have had a rough week schedule-wise, and this beatdown from the Cavaliers came the night after a game with the Lakers.
Mike Brown called this performance his one of his favorites watching his Cavalier team, particularly because of their shut-down defense that seemed to last all game long.
"For us to play the way we did defensively was extremely fun to watch," Brown said. "That first half was the most fun half I've had watching my team play this year. Even offensively, we were moving the ball side to side, driving and kicking, playing pick-and-roll on the backside, giving the ball to Shaq at the right time and spacing the right way. It was fun to watch."
Straight up. LeBron played solid, scoring 22 points on 7/14 shooting. He also tied a personal-record with 15 assists, distributing the ball to Shaq and Hickson allowing them to get easy slams. Memphis coach Lionel Collins had high praise for LeBron James after the game,
"He's just a great player," Hollins said. "I don't know that there's much more you can say about him. He sees things that other players don't see. We are in a zone (defense) and he knows what's going on. He attacks the basket then throws it out for a 3-pointer. He attacks the basket, then throws it in for a layup."
The Grizzlies looked overmatched all game, and couldn't get in a groove offensively against the Cavs stifling defense. The Cavs lead by 28 at one point, and never really allowed Memphis to do much of anything. The Cavaliers basically don't know what it feels like to lose anymore. Cleveland is 20-0 when Hickson scores 7 points or more. All signs point to another win tonight on TNT vs. the Heat, where LeBron and co. will push the winning streak to 10 games. All of this is going down while Mo and Delonte are still nursing injuries? Beautiful. Give LeBron the MVP now. LeBron James is underrated
Everything is copasetic in Cavalier-land right about now. Since LeBron and D-Wade's show in Miami, the Cavaliers have not missed a step. The Cavaliers own the best record in the league at 38-11, and no one is really close in the Eastern Conference. They managed to handle the Timberwolves in a game that they (including LeBron) did not even play well. JJ Hickson had a break-out game, scoring 23 points on 8/10 shooting and 8 rebounds in only 24 minutes on the floor. In summary: LeBron not entirely effective, kicks water bottle in disgust, gets fined $25,000. Regardless, they won the game and pushed the winning streak to 6.
Next up was a trip to Indiana to face a Pacers team that let's be honest, has no right competing on the same court with the The King and his Cavaliers. LeBron had another off-night shooting 6/18, felt he was fouled a lot, and managed still to score 23 points, 13 assists, 4 absolute monster blocks, and 7 rebounds.
When asked after the game about his statistics and whether or not he could average a triple-double if he wanted, LeBron offered this, "It's all about the win for me," James said of finishing one rebound from a triple-double. "I think I've probably had more one-rebound-away or one assist-away triple-double than anybody in NBA history."
True enough. That's what makes LeBron such an underrated player, his ability to share the ball and not focus about himself. Another great sign was yet again, the play of Shaquille O' Neal. Dominating the post, and scoring 22 points on 8/10 shooting is starting to again become Shaq's montra. In summation: Shaq dominates, LeBron finds open teammates while blocking everything in sight, Cavs push winning streak to 7.
Which brings us to last night, when the Cavaliers hosted the Los Angeles Clippers. This was a great game to be a Cavs fan, and if you witnessed the 1st quarter domination that ensued, it was a thing of beauty. Where do we begin?
11 three-pointers tied an NBA record. Considering they shot 13, that's utterly ridiculous. 46 points, in the 1st quarter. Are you kidding me? That tied the Cavaliers all-time record for points in any quarter. How about the ridiculously deep 3's LeBron was hoisting up that went in, and his 23 points on 5/6 shooting. This was just basketball supremacy at it's finest.
Consider the fact that the Cavs were without Mo Williams and Delonte West, and the achievement is even more impressive. Never has there been such a display of shooting precision to start a game. In summation: Cavs ride NBA/franchise-record 1st quarter to win over Clippers, extending winning streak to 8. LeBron James has this team on a roll, and there isn't really anything any other team can do to stop them. The Cavaliers are in the zone. LeBron is playing out of his mind. LeBron James is underrated 85RSDQRF7Q8C
